I can easily relate to being on either side of an inside-joke that one tells (eg: Touhou) and one doesn't understand (eg: Warcraft).

Though I've not ever watched Death Note, I know some of it via pop culture (or the Anime community equivalent thereof) and I actually think I get most of that inside joke.
